Make sure to set up your PC in EPP mode when install the LabTool-48XP

When install the LabTool-48XP into your PC, make sure the parallel port has been set up as EPP mode, if customer do not set the parallel port correctly will result “LabTool-48XP can not find and force it into Demo mode”. To set the parallel port as EPP mode, customer has to power off the PC, then power on it again, during the BIOS boot, press ESC and DEL key simultaneously, then move cursor to the chipset feature set up and change the parallel port, then save this set up and power on your PC again.

Useful TIP for customer who update the LabTool family software

Some customer report after update the LabTool-48/148C or LabTool-848 software, when try to execute the new revision S/W, the PC report LPT driver can not open and the system hang or the LabTool family go to demo mode only, even customer un-install the update software and execute the previous LabTool software, the LTP driver still can not open. After analysis this problem we have summarizer the possible cause are.

1) The user do not un-install the previous program, forget to restart computer, open the program more than two times, or login non-administrator (on NT or Win2000). The main operation during the installation procedure is to update the new Win drivers in which the drivers has been modified. If the new Windows drivers do not copy to the correct directories after update, the software will not work correctly after update.

2) Other possible mistakes during update the software.
Advantech Equipment has made a patched file consists of the Windows drivers and auto registry procedures to help customer recover and fix this problem .The patched file is named 'AecDrv3.exe', this patch file can be down load from web at http://www.aec.com.tw. Then go to the update page then Troubleshooting and FAQ page then down load the patch file. Customer can download from web http://www.aec.com.tw/service/Q&A.htm. After down load completely, please follow the following step one by one:

  • a. If your PC is Windows95, then execute the file 'Setup95.bat'
  • b. If your PC is Windows98, then execute the file 'Setup98.bat'
  • c. If your PC is WindowsMe, then execute the file 'SetupME.bat'
  • d. If your PC is Windows2000, then execute the file 'Setup2k.bat'
  • e. If your PC is WindowsNT, then execute the file 'SetupNT.bat'
  • f. If your PC is WindowsXP, then execute the file 'SetupXP.bat'

LabTool-48 and LabTool-48XP Question and Answer

Question: Why could not find LabTool-48XP hardware?
Answer: Check printer port is EPP or EPP+ECP mode in BIOS setup. Uninstall your preinstalled software before update; then install again.

Question: Could the old LabTool-48 hardware run the new LabTool-48XP software?
Answer: No, the new XP software could only operate on LabTool-48XP hardware.

Question: Could the LabTool-48XP hardware run the old LabTool-48 software version?
Answer: No, the new hardware will not execute the old software.

Question: Could the labTool-48 hardware upgrade to LabTool-48XP?
Answer: Yes, the LabTool-48 customer could purchase the upgrade kit to upgrade the LabTool-48 into LabTool-48XP. This upgrade kit contents the complete lower PCB assembly, please order UPGRD-KIT-48XP.

Question: What is the cost of this upgrade?
Answer: Upgrade kit price at $350 (recommend US list), and customer can upgrade the XP by themselves.

Question: Is Advantech Equipment Corp will still maintain and update the LabTool-48 software after introduce the LabTool-48XP.
Answer: Advantech can only keep the XP source code, Advantech will maintain the LabTool-48 software and release the new software for bug fix only (if any bug has been report ) by end of year 2003. Advantech has no intention to add new chip on Labtool-48 SW release, new chip will only add to LabTool-48 XP software.

Question: Is the LabTool-48 still available after introducing the LabTool-48XP?
Answer: No, Advantech will discountinue the LabTool-48 after start delivery of the LabTool-48XP, back order of LabTool-48 will automatically convert to LabTool-48XP without extra charge, new order only accept LabTool-48XP with new price.

Question: Is any physical difference between LabTool-48 and XP?
Answer: LabTool-48XP has the same dimension, outlook and weight as LabTool-48. The only difference is the mental case with new product number, ROM emulation port has been removed (customer who still need PCT-318 ROM emulation should keep the LabTool-48).

Question: What is the first software revision of LabTool-48XP ?
Answer: The initial release of LabTool-48XP software is version 5.0.

Question: After LabTool-48 discontinued, what is the warranty and support of  LabTool-48?
Answer: Advantech still offer 3 year warranty to LabTool-48 from date of shipment, which means by end of year 2005, Advantech can provide the hardware repair service for LabTool-48, SW update with bug fix release will be still available by end of year 2003.

Turbo Software of LabTool-848 become a standard offer

After Feb 1st/2002, all the LabTool-848 shipment will include the turbo software as standard offer, the turbo software is a special driver in the LabTool-848 device selection with F_XXX, following is the screen dump of turbo mode and standard mode device selection example.

Not all the chip can be implement the turbo mode, only limit device has turbo mode capability ( high density as example ) . In generally, Turbo mode has over 200% speed compare to the standard mode, it double the programming throughput .This turbo mode offer has double the value of the LabTool-848 from customer point of view, or it is 20% discount from original price.
